Child Leader Project (CLP) and Global Studies in Partnership

Child Leader Project Inc. Homepage

CLP is an international non-government organization facilitated by UCR undergraduates, graduates, faculty, alumni, departments, and Riverside community members. In coordination with local and international organizations, CLP seeks to connect high-school aged youth to their international peers through collaborative activities and programming. We believe that poverty anywhere impacts the right to flourishing of all individuals, and that a just "global village" will require a multi-dimensional process that involves real social and economic investment across national borders, that is grounded in community-to-community action, and is sustained by relationships of shared power that encourage innovation, participation, and honor the inherent worth and dignity of all people involved.
CLP and the department of Global Studies are in an official collaborative partnership. In the future, CLP plans to offer non-profit internships for interested Global Studies undergraduate students.

"The program of Global Studies is very pleased by the opportunity to collaborate with the Child Leader Project. We see your work as an extension of the kinds of issues we teach in the classroom and we are thrilled that our students will have the opportunity to work with the CLP on development and education programs." ~ Susan Ossman, Director, Global Studies

UCR volunteers for CLP recently returned from a second trip to India executing their "Leadership Mela" for their students in Tamil Nadu. This program provided students an all-expense paid trip to visit universities and listen to lectures in the coastal city of Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, India. During their visit, CLP established new connections with the Rural Institute for Development Education and the Anbhagam International Street Children Educational Development Centre to expand their leadership program to new youth this summer.

Students interested in interning with CLP or working with them in India this summer should contact Executive Director Samantha Wilson at samantha@childleaderproject.org or samantha.wilson@email.ucr.edu.
