Juan Murillo
I was the first in my family to go to college. I also was a returning student, starting college at 39, because I had to work to help support my family before that. Global Studies helped me understand the forces that created me and that enabled me to see a different world. The focus on Environmental Justice and Science, Technology, and Society has prepared me to be a global citizen; to take a step back and to look at the bigger picture, and to see how we can work together as a society to help the communities disproportionally affected by climate change, technology, and cultural shifts to name just a few. The multidisciplinary curriculum prepares students to engage in conversation and to respect and challenge different points of view.
